Day 1
Spruce Pine Area

• Walk: Orchard Road Walk #1 and the Orchard Trails
• Beautiful scenic overlook along most of the route
• Local attraction: Orchard at Altapass (music on Saturday & Sunday 2-4PM)
• Local restaurants: DT’s for Breakfast and/or Lunch or Switzerland Café for lunch or dinner; Hef’s bar/restaurant (open Sunday for breakfast) or Mad Hatter Pizza bar/pub
• Downtown shopping: Burnett’s Country Store and Toe River Arts Gallery
• Overnight lodging: Blue Ridge Boutique Hotel

Day 2
Spruce Pine, Penland

• DT’s for Breakfast and/or Lunch or check hotel offerings
• Check Burnett’s Country Store and Toe River Arts Gallery
• Historic walk: Penland Walk #1 see walk description and map
• Bag or picnic lunch or coffee shop (check hours of operation and menu of the day);
• Penland School Gallery and Shops
• Visit Area Artists: Cynthia Bringle Pottery; Bandana Pottery, Teresa Pietsch Pottery;
• Dinner: Grassy Creek Country Club (casual) or Switzerland Café (vacation casual) or Mad Hatter Pizza pub/restaurant bar.

Day 3
Bakersville

• DT’s (in Spruce Pine) for Breakfast and/or Lunch or check hotel offerings
• Walk: Bakersville Creek Walk mostly flat and easy. A nice trail along creek and into town with several historic buildings and the Mitchell County Historical Society Museum in the historic courthouse
• Town shopping: Mica Gallery — Fine Contemporary Craft, In Tandem Gallery, Heavenly Things, Roan View Mercantile are our favorites
• Food: East Fork Artisan Bakery and Bonnie & Clyde’s (a few miles out of town)
• Close by: Toecane, NC — on the river and Guerard Studios — glass blowing in a historic country store.
